We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller to join one of our dynamic clients. The Controller will play a pivotal role in overseeing the financial operations of the company, ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency. This hands-on position involves overseeing month-end close processes, journal entries, transaction reconciliations, and driving financial reporting, while also collaborating closely with internal teams and external auditors. As a key leader within the finance department, the Controller will help ensure strong financial health and adherence to both internal controls and industry regulations.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting & Transactions:
    • Create, post, and maintain accurate journal entries in a timely manner.
    • Facilitate month-end close processes and ensure the accurate reconciliation of accounts.
    • Review, research, and resolve discrepancies in financial transactions.
    • Monitor and enforce internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accuracy in financial data.
  • Audit & Compliance:
    • Coordinate external audits and ensure timely regulatory compliance.
    • File required returns and manage the company’s status for conducting international business.
    • Lead the physical inventory process and support internal/external audits.
  • Internal Controls & SOPs:
    • Develop, monitor, and maintain internal control guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for accounting functions.
    • Stay informed about updates to accounting standards, regulations, and best practices.
  • Team Leadership & Development:
    • Lead, mentor, and support the finance team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
    • Provide professional development opportunities and guidance for the finance team members.
    • Drive financial performance analysis, monitor KPIs, and provide actionable insights to the executive team.
  • Financial Insights:
    • Conduct regular analysis of financial performance and key metrics to support strategic decision-making.
    • Ensure financial data integrity and compliance with GAAP and other applicable regulations.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Technical Expertise:
    • Strong understanding of GAAP, cost accounting, and industry regulations.
    • In-depth knowledge of payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and tax reporting (federal, state, local).
    • Advanced proficiency in Excel and familiarity with accounting software, as well as Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) transmissions.
  • Leadership & Communication:
    • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey financial data and insights to non-financial stakeholders.
    • Proven ability to build and lead high-performing teams, driving results and fostering collaboration.
  • Analytical & Organizational:
    • Strong organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines without compromising quality or accuracy.
    • Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy in financial reporting and analysis.
  • Ethics & Integrity:
    • A commitment to high ethical standards, confidentiality, and compliance in all aspects of financial management.

Education & Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Certifications: CPA preferred; a strong background in inventory accounting is highly desirable.
  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience as a Controller or Senior Accountant, with a focus on complex accounting transactions.
  • Industry Experience: Prior accounting experience in the manufacturing industry is required.
